2012/08/13 | By Quincy Liang

Taipei, Aug. 13, 2012 (CENS)--Unity Opto Technology Co., Ltd., maker of LEDs in Taiwan, had revenue of NT$785 million (US$26.2 million) in July, a 10% month-on-month (MoM) increase and a record monthly high; while its major counterpart Lextar Electronics Corp. registered revenue of NT$923 million (US$30.8 million) in the same period, up 1.6% MoM and 22.5% year-on-year (YoY).

Some market research firms said that the debt crisis will impact Europe to different degrees in the second half, forcing suppliers to rely more on demand from Japan and China.

Unity attributed the record monthly high to many positive factors including additional orders from customers for new products, increasing demand from LED backlighting modules, increasing shipments of LCD TVs and tablet PCs from Taiwan-based EMS (electronics manufacturing services) providers, increasing shipments of Chinese TV makers, and increasing penetration of LED bulbs in Taiwan due to major 3C (computer, communication, and consumer electronics) chain-stores promotions etc.

Lextar said that its revenue continued to rise thanks to the strong supports from LED backlighting and LED illumination application markets.

Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. had unconsolidated revenue of NT$1.42 billion (US$47.3 million), down slightly from the previous month, having been focusing on LED illumination products to win 50%-plus market share in Taiwan.

Wellypower Optronics Corp., a cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) and LED supplier, had consolidated revenue of NT$2 billion (US$67.5 million) in the second quarter. The firm's CCFL shipments have been dropping, to about 13% in the second quarter, while LED rose to 62%, with registered net profits of NT$25 million (US$83,333), and revenue of NT$730 million (US$24.3 million), up 4.3% MoM.

According to market researcher LED inside, most LED suppliers with major exports to Europe have suffered more than 20% sales declines. Asia shows high potential, including Japanese consumers very willing to purchase LED bulbs backed by the nation's summer energy-saving policy.
