Taipei, July 9, 2012 (CENS)--Benefiting from the growing demand for light-emitting diode (LED) TV and new production orders from its clients, Unity Opto Technology Ltd., a Taiwan-based LED packaging company, saw its global sales revenue in June hit a two-year monthly high of NT$7.1 billion (US$236.67 million).

Unity is optimistic about its sales outlook for the third quarter, as its order visibility can last through the end of September for the moment. The company's revenue is expected to grow strongly along with the steady increase in orders for direct-type LED TVs and tablet products, the surge in sales of LED lighting products in the domestic market, and the large sales growth of “Honyar Technology”, Unity's business partner in China.

A Unity executive pointed out that the growing orders for TV and tablet backlight products to be delivered by its plants in Taiwan and China are mainly fueled by strong backlight terminal market demands and releases of its clients' new products. Moreover, the 3C lighting sales channels in Taiwan have started to be fitted with demonstration LED lighting fixtures from June this year, pushing up Unity's shipments in the second quarter by 78% year on year (YoY).

Unity has been developing the LED backlight markets for years and has become the leader of LED backlight maker in Taiwan. As LED backlight is gradually replacing cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs), the LED TV penetration rate is expected to surge to 65~70% this year from 40% of last year, according to Unity executives. It is estimated that the LED TVs will amount for 80% of total TV shipments by the end of this year, sharply up from 50% seen in the beginning of this year.

Apart from the South Korean TV manufacturers, Taiwanese and Chinese TV manufacturers also moved to launch new products in the second quarter of this year, and will launch direct-type TV products with energy saving functions sometime in the third quarter. Unity executives said that as China's price subsidy policy is expected to boost the LED TV sales there, the company's LED packing business is estimated to grow further as a result.
