Taipei, Nov. 30, 2011 (CENS)--Demand for the Christmas season in the U.S. this year will be very strong, reported Sun Ta-min, president of TPK, saying that the company is receiving influx of orders and expects to rack up brisk sales for November and December.
The rosy outlook underscores that tablet PCs and smart phones will still be in high demand during the Christmas season, as TPK is a major supplier of components and parts for the two products, including iPad and iPhone.
Sun made the remark during the award granting ceremony for the “2011 Taiwan's top 20 innovative enterprises.” He noted that Apple racked up strong sales in the post-Thanksgiving season, meeting market expectation. The demand was further stimulated by the discount offered by Apple.
A survey by the U.S. Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) shows that for the most desired Christmas presents among American people, 65% want Apple's iPad2 and 24% want Amazon's Kindle Fire.
Despite the economic slowdown brought about by the European debt crisis, Sun Ta-min was still upbeat about the prospects of the touch-panel industry, as more companies will join the fray along with the spreading applications of touch panels.
Su pointed out that TPK aims to achieve 70% self-production rate for protective glass. Its Suzhou plant will switch to the production of protective glass in the first half of 2012. The company will begin to turn out the cutting-edge OGS (one glass solution) products next July, becoming the first Taiwanese OGS producer.
