Sanyang Ind. to Promote E-scooter in Taiwan

Taipei, Sept. 18, 2009 (CENS)--Sanyang Industry Co., Ltd. (SYM brand), top-three powered two-wheeler (PTW) in Taiwan, recently demonstrated the lead-acid battery version of e-st@r electric-scooter for the domestic market and announced that a lithium-ion version would be launched by the end of the year.

The lead-acid battery e-st@r is priced less than NT$30,000 (US$923 at US$1: NT$32.5), targeting at the shorter-distance commuters. The lithium-ion version, according to Sanyang, will be priced at about NT$50,000 (US$1,538).

With an eye on the coming era of electric vehicles, Sanyang has been actively devoting into development of e-scooter products. The Taiwanese PTW maker set up an e-vehicle production subsidiary in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province of mainland China last year and currently the new subsidiary turns out more than 1,000 e-scooters per month.

Sanyang said that it is optimistic about the sales of the e-st@r e-scooter in Taiwan, because the model is very cost-competitive and any buyer of it could get a NT$3,000 (US$92) subsidy from the government.

The company claimed that it e-scooter products would be sold around the island and in some offshore islands, targeting mainly vehicle leasing companies at scenery spots and offshore islands initially for exposure.
