CENS Promotes Cross-Strait Lighting Industry at International Shows
2008/07/11 | By Ken LiuThe China Economic News Service (CENS), Taiwan's biggest private publisher of trade journals, sent a delegation to promote CENS Lighting Magazine at the Light+Building 2008 show and Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) 2008 in April this year. CENS Lighting provides the most complete and up-to-date information on lighting manufacturers, and their products, in both Taiwan and China.
Light+Building 2008 was held from April 6 through 11 in Frankfurt, Germany, while the four-day Hong Kong Electronics Fair 2008 wound up on April 17.
Light+Building is held every two years. The 2008 show, the fifth edition of the event, attracted 2,173 exhibitors who displayed their latest products over a floor area covering 230,000 square meters. A total of 165,000 buyers, including 66,000 from overseas, attended; the previous fair had 2,139 exhibitors and 135,000 attendees.
Light+Building 2008 highlighted three major themes-lighting, electrical engineering, and building automation.
The lighting and luminary section occupied the largest part of the exhibition area, with 1,500 exhibitors covering 160,000 square meters. The major types of products in this section were decorative lighting, technical lighting, architectural lighting, lighting design, and electronic parts. Asian exhibitors, who focused on energy-saving products, eco-friendly products, and LED/OLED lamps, were concentrated in Hall 10.1; there were 285 from the Chinese mainland, and 59 from Taiwan.
The electrical engineering section housed 500 manufacturers who displayed their latest technologies, including computerized air-conditioning systems, water-drainage systems, anti-burglar systems, communications systems, and disaster-prevention systems.
Around 150 suppliers showed their latest offerings in the building automation section. Most of their products featured intelligent-control capability.
The Hong Kong Electronics Fair (held on Apr. 14-17 this year) was quite different from Light+Building in terms of product themes, with most of the floor area occupied by displays of consumer electronics, home-entertainment systems, household appliances, security systems, and communications systems. There was, of course, a lighting section as well.
This year, a total of 2,469 exhibitors came from mainland China, Taiwan, the United States, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and Holland to demonstrate their latest products at the Hong Kong show. There were first-time exhibitors from Brazil, Israel, Macau, Romania, and Thailand.
Lighting manufacturers from mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong filled the largest part of the lighting section, with LED lighting taking center stage. An estimated 20,000 buyers, more than a third of the total (53,000), visited the lighting section.
The Hong Kong Trade Development Council, which organized the exhibition, plans to spin off the lighting section into an independent show next year. This will give Hong Kong two annual lighting fairs.
At both Light+Building 2008 and the Hong Kong fair, CENS Lighting provided vital information on the latest trends in the Taiwanese and mainland Chinese lighting industries.
