Radiant Opto-Electronics to pay out dividend of NT$4.5 for 2003

Taipei, April 22, 2003 (CENS)--Radiant Opto-Electronics Corp., a main local producer of backlight modules listed on the local over-the-counter (OTC) bourse, will distribute a dividend per share of NT$4.5, NT$3.5 in stock and N$1.0 in cash, for its operation in 2002.

Radiant Opto-Electronics' board of directors recently passed the dividend distribution and the company's plan to establish a new factory of backlights at a total cost of NT$100 million. The new factory will mainly produce backlights for use in TFT-LCDs (thin film transistor-liquid crystal displays) based on manufacturing process of the fifth generation. A large portion of such TFT-LCDs will be used in LCD TVs.

In the first quarter, Radiant Opto-Electronics scored revenue of NT$1.425 billion, net operating profit of NT$152 million, pretax profit of NT$155 million, after-tax profit of NT$135 million, and net (after-tax) earnings per share (EPS) of NT$1.27.

On the other hand, Powertip Technology Corp., an OTC-listed local manufacturer of STN-LCD (super twisted nematic-LCD) modules, recently released its financial projection for this year as follows: revenue of NT$1.122 billion (up 23.16% from last year), net operating profit of NT$76.41 million, pretax profit of NT$81.07 million (7.34 times the NT$11.05 million recorded in 2002), after-tax profit of NT$79.56 million (139.58 times the NT$0.57 million posted last year), and net EPS of 1.35.
