Taipei, March 6, 2003 (CENS)--Kai Mei Electronics Co. said yesterday that its newly developed V-chip aluminum capacitors for the use in PS2 game machines would gain a quality certification from Sony of Japan by the end of this month.

Kai Mei expects to get the authority from Sony for the manufacture of V-chips in Taiwan. It is estimated that both Kai Mei and Lelon Electronics Co. will share Sony's sales of 25 million PS2 games machines in the market per year.

PS 2 game machines require major passive components such as V-chip capacitors, PC-CON, MLCCs (multi-layer ceramic capacitors), and chip resistors. V-chips post a comparably high price, compared with other components.

It is estimates that Sony needs about 900 million V-chips for its sales of over 25 million PS2s each year.

Kai Mei has now owned five production lines, with the production capacity to reach 10 million units per month. Lelon's Taiwan plant, Suzhou plant, and Malaysian plant can turn out about 100 million units per month.
