Taiwan Alpha led in 6-month EPS among makers of passive devices

Taipei, July 25, 2003 (CENS)--Taiwan Alpha Electronic Co., Ltd., among four listed local manufacturers of electric passive devices, ranked first in terms of earnings per share (EPS) for the first half of this year at NT$2.33.

The other three companies are Lelon Electronics Corp., TA-I Technology Co., Ltd., and Polytronics Technology Corp. Lelon and TA-I Technology are listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, and the other two on the local over-the-counter bourse.

Taiwan Alpha, the largest producer of varistors (variable resistors) in Taiwan, rang up NT$13.2 million in pretax profit last month, rising by 11% from June last year. The company raked in cumulative pretax profit of NT$65 million in the first half of this year, growing by 16% from the same period of last year and translating into EPS of NT$2.33.

Lelon Electronics is Taiwan's largest maker of aluminum electrolytic capacitors. With pretax profit of NT$17.76 million for June, the company garnered pretax profit of NT$101 million in the first six months of the year, equivalent to EPS of NT$0.85.

TA-I Technology produces a variety of resistors. The company brought in pretax profit of NT$136 million in the first half of the year, translating into EPS of NT$1.09 based on the capital of NT$1.25 billion after ex-right.

Polytronics Technology specializes in the production of thermistors (thermal resistors). The company reaped revenue of NT$250 million in the first six months of the year, an annual rise of 40.9%. Meanwhile, the company chalked up six-month pretax profit of NT$64 million, attaining 42.5% of the target for this year and equivalent to EPS of NT$1.6.
