Taiwan Alpha Electronic taps Latin American market

Taipei, June 24, 2003 (CENS)--Taiwan Alpha Electronic Co., Ltd., the largest local manufacturer of varistors (variable resistors) listed on the local over-the-counter bourse, will market its products in Latin America through cooperation with the largest distributor of varistors there.

Taiwan Alpha Electronic signed cooperation with the largest distributor of varistors in Latin America early this month to sell products there through the latter's marketing network.

Taiwan Alpha Electronic currently has its varistors under the process of certification by Latin American clients and expects to receive orders beginning early next month. The Latin American market of varistors is valued at US$3-5 million a year, and the company aims at a market share of 10%-15% for the first year.

Taiwan Alpha Electronic reaped pretax profit of NT$13.9 million last month. With revenue of NT$153 million, the company raked in pretax profit of NT$51.5 million for January-May this year, rising by 17.31% from the NT$43.9 million posted in the same five months of last year and fulfilling 34.6% of the goal for this year. Based on the current capital, the company's five-month pretax profit was equivalent to earnings per share of NT$2.06.
