Domestic prices of polyester textured yarn unchanged for June

Taipei, May 28, 2003 (CENS)--Local manufacturers of polyester textured yarn, after reducing production for a while, have decided to keep their domestic sales prices generally at the current levels for June.

The domestic sales prices of polyester filament yarn and polyester textured yarn kept declining in the past one to two months. In the meantime, main local producers have either stopped production lines for annual maintenance or decreased production volumes by 20%-30% so as to diminish stock volumes.

As a result, manufacturers in the line decided to curb further drops in their domestic sales prices by almost maintaining the current prices for next month. At present, the domestic sales price per kilogram stands at NT$30-31 for 230-denier polyester filament yarn as well as NT$48-50, NT$39-40, and NT$36-37 for 75-denier, 150-denier, and 300-denier, respectively, polyester textured yarn.

Noteworthy is that the prices of these products in mainland China have risen drastically by 500-1,500 renminbi per metric tons since one to two weeks ago. The situation is expected to help maintain or even push up the domestic sales prices.
