Taipei, March 14, 2003 (CENS)--Prosperity Dielectrics Co., Ltd., a local producer of electric passive devices listed on the local over-the-counter bourse, recently obtained product certification for its BME (base metal electrode) ceramic dielectric powder from Walsin Technology Corp.

Ceramic dielectric powder is a key material of MLCCs (multi-layer ceramic capacitors) and BME (base metal electrode) is an advanced manufacturing process of MLCCs. Moreover, ceramic dielectric powder can be of various chemical formulations and BME ceramic dielectric powder is specifically applied to the BME manufacturing process.

Walsin Technology is one of the top two MLCC manufacturers in Taiwan. So far, local MLCC makers all use imported BME ceramic dielectric powder. Thus, product certification by Walsin Technology will enable Prosperity Dielectrics to break into the domestic market currently monopolized by overseas producers.

Prosperity Dielectrics has two production lines of BME ceramic dielectric powder with total monthly capacity of 50 metric tons. However, the company turns out 20-30 metric tons a month at present and expects the capacity utilization rate to fast rise in the second half of this year.

In addition to ceramic dielectric powder, Prosperity Dielectrics produces MLCCs, chip resistors, and disk type semiconductive capacitors. The company will raise more capital by floating domestic convertible bonds in June this year, with the funds to be used to replace its palladium-based manufacturing process of MLCCs with BME one.
