Taipei, June 18, 2003 (CENS)--Economics Minister Lin Yi-fu yesterday sent out worldwide messages to inform Taiwan's major business partners about the World Health Organization's action of lifting warning against travel to Taiwan as the SARS disease has been placed under control.

The message is part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) campaign to kick off new commercial activities that have been dampened by the outbreaks of severe acute respiratory disease in the past three months.

The ministry will join hands with semiofficial China External Trade Development Council (CETRA), the International Trade Building, the Taipei International Convention Center, and the Grand Hyatt Hotel to hold a promotion event dubbed as "D-day" campaign to start the series of international commercial activities.

Minister Lin's letter addressed to trade ministers welcome enterprises in the 19 member nations of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum and 300 world trade centers in various nations to engage in active business interchanges with their partners in Taiwan.

Through the channels of the CETRA, the MOEA will also notify over 230,000 potential buyers of Taiwan products about the resumption of international trade shows to be held in Taipei in July.

The Taipei International Application Show (TICA) set for July 30-Aug. 3 will be the first major computer exhibition to be staged in the second half of the year by the CETRA.

But an international trade show of furniture, interior decorations, and building materials will be hosted by a local show organizer from June 26 to 29.

The only trade show sponsored by the CETRA to be canceled for the next six months will be the TaipeiWine originally scheduled for Aug. 14-17. CETRA officials said that the decision was made after a survey shows that most exhibitors agreed to suspend the show.

The large-scale international investment conference set for Oct. 19-22 in Taipei will go ahead as scheduled, with senior top executives of multinational companies to be invited to take part in the meeting and increase their investments in Taiwan.
