Over the last 15 years, Precision Motion Industries, Inc. (PMI) has developed a strong reputation for supplying precision ball screws to local machine-tool manufacturers from its central Taiwan plant. The company is now taking this success beyond the island's borders, tapping high-end markets with cutting-edge products.

The move into the international arena marks an ambitious step for PMI, which was founded with little capital and limited processing machinery. In 1995, the company installed its first external thread grinder, made by Japan's Mitsui Seiki, paving the way for the production of high-precision grounded ballscrews. Since then, the company's business has been growing rapidly.

Over the past several years, the company has steadily expanded its share of the Taiwan market. In more recent years, it has been making all-out efforts to penetrate the international marketplace for top-grade ballscrews.

In July 2002 PMI established a subsidiary named AMT and started to manufacture linear guideways, which are widely used in the semiconductor production equipment, factory automation, and machine tool industries.

PMI plans to develop new manufacturing technologies to consolidate its position in the linear guideway market.

PMI is also developing nanotech capability in its products to assure higher operating accuracy. The company expects to release its first nanotech-capable products as early as in 2006.
