Delta to become No. 2 CCFL tube maker in Taiwan

Taipei, May 27, 2005 (CENS)--Taiwan's Delta Electronics, Inc. will significantly expand its production capacity of cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) tubes in the second half of the year, and its annual shipment volume of such products is expected to reach about 20 million units, according to company sources.

Delta currently runs three CCFL production lines with a total monthly capacity of 1.35 million tubes. The number of production lines will be increased to 10 by the end of the year, with the firm's monthly capacity to rise to 4.5 million tubes. Delta claimed that it is expected to become the No. 2 CCFL tube maker in Taiwan soon, trailing only major rival Wellypower Optronics Co. Ltd.

Delta chairman Cheng Chung-hwa said that his company would continue diversifying product lines and pursuing higher market shares for each of the company's product categories. Delta has been actively expanding its global share of power-supply products and developing digital light processing (DLP) projection TV business. In addition, the leading electronic maker has been actively involved in opto-communication, opto-electrical machinery, optical parts, liquid crystal display (LCD) backlight module, CCFL and automotive electronic parts fields. The company has also developed some new products such as server motors and human-machine interfaces to pave the way for its future business growth.

Statistics compiled by DisplaySearch, the global leader in flat panel display (FPD) market research and consulting, showed that the global demands for LCD monitors and LCD TVs would reach 97 million and 17.5 million units, respectively, this year, and the volumes are expected to grow to 117 million and 29 million units next year. A senior Delta official said that the global demand for CCFL tubes is expected to reach 652 million and 939 million units this year and next, respectively.
