GAYA Digital Electronic Ballast (DC) Product Overview:
1. Introduction
As the Earth's energy sources are depleted, the price of fossil fuels has reached new heights. The search for alternative energy, the development of solar power, wind power and human power as well as the promotion of solar power and human power industries have all become an important target for countries across the world. The priority now for national governments is to integrate renewable energy sources (such as solar power, wind power, solar power, water power, geothermal, ocean power and human power, as well as AC/DC electricity). This includes the development of effective power generation, storage and distribution methods as well as new energy sources and energy-saving measures.
2. Hybrid Clean Solar Power Renewable Energy Source – DC System Overview (see diagram below):
Solar power is a boundless source of energy. In sunny regions (the tropics and sub-tropics) if solar power can be converted in electricity for human use, it offers an endless supply of electricity and the most cost-effective form of alternative energy. As shown in the following diagram, solar power is converted into DC electricity. The DC current generated by the sun is stored in the battery. When the DC current in the battery is exhausted, the system automatically switches to the Taipower grid. When the storage battery is fully charged again, it automatically switches back to the battery again. In this way, the power supply continues uninterrupted. Even if Taipower experiences a power outage, the electricity in the storage battery ensures that two great power outages that affected the whole of Taiwan after the "921 Earthquake" in 1999 will not happen again. As power from the battery and the Taipower grid are used in alternation, this reduces the power demand on Taipower. Taipower can therefore generate less electricity and so energy consumption is naturally reduced.
3. At higher latitudes in the northern hemisphere (e.g. Europe, North America, Russia, Japan's Hokkaido and northern China) the hours of sunshine are quite low. In fall and winter, the freezing weather as well as short days and long nights mean solar power is an impractical energy source. The only feasible alternative energy supply then is "human power". "Human power" is based using a pedal-driven generator and muscle power. Electromagnetic induction converts the mechanical energy into DC current that can be used directly at home (for lighting or TV) without having to go through the AC/DC conversion process (avoids a power loss of 20~30%). It therefore offers one of the better alternative energy solutions.
