Tung Tien Enterprise Co., Ltd. Is one of Taiwan's most experienced and respected manufacturers of casters, offering models in a wide range. Since its establishment in 1975 the company has been making casters for industrial applications and for use with furniture, luggage, medical instruments, shopping carts, and other products.

Management says its two separate production facilities in Changhua County, central Taiwan are fully integrated, handling all parts of the production process from design, stamping, and plastic-injection molding to product finishing and packaging.

At present casters constitute more than 95% of Tung Tien's total output. The company has steadily invested in developing ever more advanced manufacturing techniques and product innovations, with a particular emphasis on increasing maximum-load capacities.

The company sells casters of four basic types--ball, light, heavy, and medical-instrument models. Its ball and light casters have a load capacity of 50kgs, medical-instrument casters 100kgs, and heavy casters 150kgs to 300kgs.

To date the firm has developed more than 1,000 different caster models. Management says the firm has an in-house research and development, which introduces several new and innovative items each quarter.

Its three decades in the line has brought Tung Tien considerable expertise in making high-end casters. The company says all of its products must pass strict durability inspection before they are green-lighted for delivery. "In testing our casters have shown no deterioration even after 38,000 loading cycles," says Liang Ming-tung, president of the company.

According to Liang, the key to making a caster of superior strength and durability rests in the location of the support point. "This is something that we have become proficient in--the designing of special mechanisms--thanks to our long experience in the business," he says.

Liang also attributes the success of his company to its strict quality-control system, made possible via the handling of all processing operations in-house. The firm's hard-won reputation for quality, he says, has helped Tung Tien steadily expand its overseas sales in recent years. The company can currently turn out around 50,000 casters per day with a double shift.

Tung Tien exports on OEM, ODM, and OBM (original equipment/design/brand manufacturer) bases, with its major overseas outlets including Japan, the U.S., Europe, mainland China, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

Originally, Tung Tien relied on trading companies to market its products overseas. It decided, however, to set up its own trading department to handle such sales directly a few years ago. The department has since been systematically assuming responsibility in the various markets.
