Taiwan's Hardware Industry Buoyed by New Intelligent Manufacturing Demonstration Field

2020/03/02 | By CENS

Taiwan's mold & die industry features excellent technology as well as competitive quality and price. In order to move towards intelligent manufacturing, the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs commissioned the Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC) to set up an Intelligent Manufacturing Demonstration Field for the Stamping Die Industry to attain the three goals of high product value, manufacturing intellectualization and management digitalization. Moreover, the field provides services such as field visits, high-value stamping die development, parts stamping, and intelligent manufacturing technology counseling. The demonstration field was completed and the promotion briefing held on November 29, attended by industry, government, academic, and research units such as the Industrial Development Bureau, the Taiwan's Mold & Die Industry Association and SEYI, HIWIN, and EJEE Pressing Dies Industry, Van Guard Mold Enterprise, and Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology. Together, we will help the stamping die industry developing intelligent manufacturing technology.

In recent years, mold & die technology in Japan and Korea has continued to advance, while development in China, Thailand, and Vietnam has not been interrupted. In order to master existing technologies and customers, Taiwan needs to continue to improve mold & die development and production capabilities. With the support of the Industrial Development Bureau, the Metal Industries Research & Development Center was commissioned to create an Intelligent Manufacturing Demonstration Field for the Stamping Die Industry, located in the Traditional Industry Innovation and Value-added Center of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (No. 55 Chaoren Road, Nanzi District, Kaohsiung), and all equipment is made in Taiwan by domestic companies, including servo presses, automated robotic arms, 3D scanning devices, etc. In the meantime, we have developed a cloud platform for production information, a system of intelligent virtual mold & die testing, databases of mold & die development, and an online mold & die supervision and diagnosis system. The demonstration field can become the basis for collaborative research and development by industry-university-research units.

With the construction of the intelligent manufacturing demonstration field for stamping die, we will play a leading role in Taiwan's mold & die and machinery industry to form a 'national team' that will fight for the 'World Cup' of the metal manufacturing industry, and obtain more overseas orders. The Metal Industries Research & Development Center has been deeply involved in the mold & die industry for many years, and owns multi-system integration technology. It can help manufacturers upgrade and transform technology according to the specific needs of customers. It will also optimize solutions and implement an innovation service model to take Taiwan's mold & die and machinery industry to a new level.
