e21FORUM 2015 to Take Place in Taipei International Convention Center during Computex Taipei

2015/05/30 | By Steve Chuang

The e21FORUM has been one of the biggest concurrent events during Computex Taipei. This year's e21FORUM will be held on June 2 afternoon in the Taipei International Convention Center, themed “Smart X Living New Life Style,” with keynote speeches with topics of “Technology at the Heart of Smart Living, Today and Tomorrow” and “The Internet of Things:Real-world Successes” to be delivered by Kirk Skaugen, Intel's Senior Vice President and General Manager Client Computing Group, and Paul Wang, Business Transform Director from PTC (Parametric Technology Corporation), respectively.

As Intel has always attended to the forum to talk about the latest technological issues as a yearly tradition during Computex Taipei, Kirk Skaugen therefore is going to shed light on during his speech the application of the Skylake processor microarchitecture that is scheduled to be launched sometime in the second half of this year. Given that Intel's Broadwell Core M hardware platform which allows fanless design, low voltage and high efficiency has been widely applied in laptops, 2-in-1 PCs and newer Macbook Air, Skylake, Broadwell's successor and already migrating into 14-nanometer process, therefore becomes a hot issue for the audience at the forum. Most also look forward to seeing if Intel will showcase a prototype of a device using Skylake platform, which is reported to have adopted Type-C USB ports to support USB3.1.

Another interesting observation to be expected from Kirk Skaugen' speech is how Intel will maneuver in the IOT (the Internet of Thing) and cloud businesses, especially when the firm's latest financial report indicates the two businesses both have shown stronger growth than its PC sales. Plus, some look to be informed of whether the firm will roll out chips using 10-nano process technology beginning in the second half of 2015 as planned, when the competition with 14/16 nanometer manufacturing process among its major competitors, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and Samsung Electronics, has just heated up.

On another front, PCT's Paul Wang will point out growing trends and related business opportunities amid the IOT boom, and share an insight on the developmental direction of the new market. Believing that IOT has been no longer just a concept, but a reality in people's lives, Wang will also focus on studying of several real-world cases where enterprises have effectively taken advantage of the technology to come up with new solutions, business models and services, so as to greatly improve operating efficiency and generate value for both themselves and their customers.

Taiwan External Trade Development Council, e21FORUM organizer, stresses that smart living has become the technology trend for the future, and many of things in daily life have been involved in cloud computing and big data, to gradually form a smart-living ecology. Therefore, the organizer says, the event aims to provide the audience a close look at how the world has been changed by new technologies, and participants who stay through the end of the forum will have a chance to win an InFocus smart device
