Weekly Part-time Work Hours and Monthly Pay Down from 3 Years Ago in Taiwan

 A recent survey by the Statistics Department of Taiwan's Ministry of Labor (MOL) shows average work hours of Taiwan's temporary or part-time workers this year have declined two hours from three years ago to 22.2 hours weekly, with average monthly pay slightly down NT$56 (US$1.87) to NT$12,385 (US$412.83).

Taiwan has some 397,000 temporary or part-time workers, of which students account for the  lion's share of 40%, down four percentage points from 2011's, followed by housewives & househusbands at 22%, down five percentage points.

The top-three temporary or part-time jobs remain the same as those in 2011, being restaurant waiters & waitresses, office clerks, and cashiers.

Generally temporary or part-time workers on the island work on average 2.3 years, about 0.3 year longer than in 2011. (JL)
