The England-based market consultant, Juniper Research Ltd., even forecasts the industry's revenue to increase to US$71 billion by 2018, mostly driven demand for home automation, healthcare, and entertainment systems.
These business opportunities will also drive telecom-service and cable TV-service providers to work with smart home solution providers to share the market, according to Juniper.
One Taiwanese chip vendor, MediaTek Inc., has already tapped the market by releasing an energy efficient IEEE 802.11n wireless chip for small smart home equipment as lighting and wall plugs. (KL)
