IMTS is a biennial, reputable manufacturing technology show in North America, with this year's edition running Sept. 8-13 at McCormick Place, Chicago, the U.S, for its 30th staging to have drawn 2,035 exhibitors using more than 1.282 million net square feet of exhibit space.

The event saw 114,147 visitors from 112 countries for a sharp increase of 13.9% over IMTS 2012, with many being manufacturing industry professionals who saw more than 15,000 new machine tools, controls, computers, software, components, systems and processes.

A remarkable display of new and emerging technologies that continue to revolutionize manufacturing, the innovations, including digital data integration, automation/robotics, in-line quality assurance and additive manufacturing, and traditional equipment, offer solutions to manufacturers who seek increased productivity and lower cost. Experts believe direct digital manufacturing technology could revolutionize efficiency, lower threshold for small-time operators, particularly 3D printing that was a spotlight at the show.

Automechanika Frankfurt

The 23rd Automechanika Frankfurt held Sept. 16-20 was again an outstanding showcase for innovations from the international aftermarket. This year, around 140,000 trade visitors from 173 countries, one in four from the workshop sector, took advantage of this opportunity to discover the latest automotive products and technologies.

The fair set a new record with 4,631 companies from 71 countries. “The ratings given by exhibitors have been outstanding with a significant impetus coming from outside Germany. However, German companies also see the current economic situation in a more positive light than in 2012,” said Detlef Braun, member of the board of management of Mess Frankfurt.

The number of international visitors rose by five percentage points to 60%. Particular interest was shown by visitors towards alternative powertrains, fully automatic digital reception processes, energy efficiency, lightweight construction solutions with previously unachieved loading capacities, accessories, customizing, car media and 3D printing.

“More than ever before, Automechanika in Frankfurt has shown itself to be a platform for the presentation of important, future-oriented technologies as the key to tomorrow's developments throughout the entire automotive aftermarket,” Braun pointed out.

The fair also presented the latest products and developments from the world market in the commercial-vehicle field. “Sustainability and environmental compatibility also play an extremely important role in the commercial-vehicle segment. For example, vans with previously unheard of loading capacities and weight-optimized electric refrigerated vehicles were seen here for the first time,” Braun added.
