Taiwanese Enterprises to Add an Estimated 54,000 Employees in Q4
2014/09/24 | By Judy LiTaiwan companies will add an estimated 54,000 employees in the fourth quarter of this year, the highest Q4 increase in three years and marking the first positive Q4 growth in five years, according to a survey conducted recently by the Ministry of Labor (MOL).
The survey, which was carried out in late July and early August, covered 3,022 domestic enterprises with a workforce of over 30 persons each. The survey's findings indicated that the island's companies will add 54,428 workers in the fourth quarter, for an annual growth rate of over 70%.
Of the total new employment, the industrial sector will account for 34,569 and the service sector 19,859. By industry, manufacturing will hire 34,715 more employees during the quarter; wholesale and retail sales will add 4,540, and accommodation and catering industry will increase their work forces by 2,042.
The expected rise of 34,715 employees in manufacturing for the quarter will represent a whopping year-on-year growth of 90%, a three-year high. Within this sector electronic parts, including ICs, solar energy, and optoelectronics, will see the highest amount of recruitment with 13,000 persons, about 2.7 times the corresponding figure for last year.
T. P. Yang, spokesman for Yes123, a popular job site in Taiwan, points out that the electronics industry usually experiences a better business climate in the second half than in the first, and will surely need more workers in the fourth quarter. To avoid low-echelon worker drain, Yang says, some electronics producers are offering a monthly salary of NT$30,000 (US$1,000) for a day-shift worker and NT$40,000 (US$1,333) for night -hift workers.
