Quanta Computer's Consolidated Revenue Hits 9-Month High of NT$81.215 Bn. in August

2014/09/23 | By Steve Chuang

Mainly driven by strong back-to-school demand for notebook PCs, Taiwan-based Quanta Computer Inc., world's largest laptop original design manufacturer by shipment, recorded a 9-month high in Aug. consolidated revenue of  NT$81.251 billion (US$2.708 billion) since December, up 4.3% month-on-month (MoM) or 11.8% year-on-year (YoY), according to the firm's latest financial report.

Quanta Computer attributes such banner revenue mainly to its strong notebook PC shipments amid seasonal boom, which totaled 4.7 million units in the month, surging 11.9% from 4.2 million units in July for a 2-year high. Based on its cumulative shipments for July-August, institutional investors project the firm's total shipment for Q3 to grow more strongly than its original growth forecast of 10%.

For the first eight months, Quanta Computer's cumulative consolidated revenue reached NT$589.5 billion (US$19.65 billion), up 10.66% YoY, shows the firm's report. Mostly thanks to recovering market demand for laptops, the firm's monthly revenue has steadily grown YoY so far this year.

Worth mentioning is that after contracted by Apple Inc. to supply iWatch, Quanta Computer will see the product start to contribute to sales as early as Q1, 2015.

However, some of institutional investors opine that the wearable device may not drive the Taiwanese contract manufacturer's performance as sizably as expected earlier, mainly because the relatively high unit prices, starting from US$349, will likely make the product less attractive to consumers, particularly when it has been fiercely criticized for being not impressive, innovative enough to justify the price since launch in mid-September.
