Unity Opto Technology's August Revenue Hits All-Time High of US$30.4 Million
2014/09/19 | By Ken LiuIn August LED packaging house Unity Opto Technology Co., Ltd. saw revenue hit fresh all-time high of NT$912 million (US$30.4 million), surging 13.59% from the previous month and 59.45% year on year to set new high for the second month.
Company executives ascribe the persistent growth mostly to the company’s July rollout of new types of LED lightbulbs, whose shipments in August have outstripped those in Q2 this year and order visibility is into Q4.
The company estimates lighting products to increase to account for over 30% of total revenue in Q3, with revenue likely to exceed 75% from the previous quarter.
The company is upbeat about market outlook for LED lighting in the second half (H2) of 2014 based on the double-digit growth rate in the American and European markets for LED light bulbs and introductions of next-generation energy-saving policies in major economies.
Anticipating extensive replacements of traditional lights with LEDs to occur in Europe and America in 2015, Unity Opto is vigorously adding production capacity, with the expansion at a two-story factory in the New Taipei Industrial Park, northern Taiwan, projected to be completed in Q4.
Also contributing to the company’s August revenue growth is the WCG (wide color gamut) LED backlights integrated into mobile devices. Thanks to popularity of WCG backlights among customers, the company’s production is running close to full capacity.
Industry executives say this year LED backlights feature increased size, slimness, and high resolution as well as WCG, a feature enabling more vivid pictures on mobile devices. Many big-name mobile device suppliers plan to release more smart phones and tablet PCs integrated with WCG backlights in H2, 2014 after debuting high-end products with WCG backlights in H1. (KL)
