TW Edison to Commercialize World's First Magnetic Levitation Electricity-Generator

2014/08/06 | By Steve Chuang

TW Edison Technology Co., Ltd., a Taiwan-based developer of small wind turbines for mainly residential micro-power-generation with paid-in capital of NT$80 million (US$2.66 million), will commercialize the world's first magnetic levitation electricity-generator in the coming year, according to the company's chairman H.C. Deng.

At an investor conference held earlier, Deng first demonstrated the generator by connecting it to an air conditioner, refrigerator, PC and electric fan. He said that his company had spent nearly three years and about NT$70 million (US$2.33 million) developing the product that generates some 7.2Kwh daily in stored power without consuming energy and emitting carbon and pollutants.

Compared to conventional generators using  coils and magnets, the chairman furthered that TW Edison's magnetic levitation electricity- generator is like a permanent magnet synchronous generator that works without excitation rewinding, carbon brushes and slip rings, to feature simpler structure, lighter weight and higher power.

Deng emphasized that the product will be contract manufactured by Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., a global-scale EMS (electronics manufacturing service) firm, and will hit markets to target both household and industrial users worldwide, with a unit price of about NT$150,000 (US$5,000).

The chairman stated that the product shows considerable growth potential in the global market, particularly in emerging countries where power shortages continue to be a daily issue. Citing Myanmar among other target markets, he forecasts sales of the product there to reach 20,000 units monthly.

Deng revealed that so far TW Edison has signed exclusive distributors in Germany, Japan and Myanmar, and is close to doing so in  China and Thailand. (SC)
