Taiwanese Firms in Vietnam Upbeat About MIRDC's Local Branch

2014/08/04 | By Steve Chuang

Taiwanese enterprises in Vietnam are generally upbeat with the setting up of a branch of the Metal Industry Research & Development Centre (MIRDC), a Taiwanese government-funded R&D institute, who has signed a memorandum-of-understanding with Canxin Group, a consultant and provider of investment services and information for Taiwanese firms interested in operating overseas.

Besides allowing Taiwanese firms more reliable access to R&D capacity to upgrade competitiveness, MIRDC's decision to set up shop in Vietnam is of significance for Taiwanese investors there, for it  represents Taiwan's first semi-official institute to establish a branch in Southeast Asia. The country has attracted over NT$800 billion in  investment from Taiwanese firms to make Vietnam as the island's fourth-largest overseas investment destination.

Among Taiwanese firms operating in Vietnam, CX Technology Corp., a manufacturer of magnetic induction speaker parts for globally known brands and with considerable production capacity in the country, is particularly excited about MIRDC's arrival, with its chairman, Albert Ting, having  repeatedly urged the institute to set up a branch there, to help Taiwanese firms using base metals in production to further boost competitiveness more efficiently and effectively.

With the signing of the MOU, MIRDC's chairman, C.C. Huang, said that his institute will do its utmost to provide assistance and technical support, from automation through technology R&D and consultancy, through its Vietnamese branch to Taiwanese firms. (SC)
