Taiwan's CPI up 1.64% YoY in June
2014/07/24 | By Judy LiTaiwan's consumer price index (CPI) posted an annual growth of 1.64% in June, exceeding 1.6% for the fourth consecutive month, due mainly to surging food price hikes, which boosted dining-out expenditures to a six-and-half year high, according to the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting & Statistics (DGBAS).
Food prices in Taiwan have risen obviously in the last three months, with prices in June alone having risen 3.78% year-on-year, particularly those of eggs by 18.17%.
The DGBAS estimates the CPI growth in Q3 to be 1.79% and rise to 1.97% in Q4, with 2014 growth likely to be 1.53%, far exceeding 2013's sub-1%. (JL)
