GiantPlus to See Banner Q2 Sales Due to Strong LCD Module Shipment on Wider Applications

2014/06/12 | By Steve Chuang

With its LCD modules increasingly ordered for wider applications, including wearable electronics, high-end smartphones, in-car displays and industrial computers, GiantPlus Technology Co., Ltd., a Taiwan-based manufacturer of small and medium-sized LCD modules, is optimistic that sales will surge 20% year-on-year (YoY) in the second quarter of this year.

At an investor conference held earlier, GiantPlus's president, C.C. Pu, reported that since turning from red to black last November, the firm has seen its shipment of LCD modules for smartphones notably grow, hence finishing the first quarter of this year with consolidated revenue of NT$4.24 billion, up 83.3% compared to a year ago, and EPS (earnings per share) of NT$0.15.

On outlook towards the second quarter, Pu commented optimistically that GiantPlus is very likely to witness sales soar over 20% YoY, given that revenue in April had risen 28.2% yearly, and that the firm's LCD modules are being increasingly applied in different fields to broaden customer base and propel revenue growth.

In-car display application is an example. Pu indicated that since gradually becoming a supplier to American and Japanese carmakers in the past few years, GiantPlus is being recognized by customers from the segment, therefore garnering new orders from European and Chinese automotive manufacturers this year to further drive shipment. The firm's shipment of this kind is forecast by institutional investors to skyrocket 20-30% next year, and double by 2016.

Meanwhile, GiantPlus has also benefited from strong customer loyalty in the industrial PC industry. Today, Pu noted, the firm enjoys the biggest share of the global market for LCD modules applied in electronic data capture systems.

With wearable electronics gradually gaining popularity worldwide, LCD modules for the application will hopefully also drive growth for GiantPlus in the short term, with Pu also revealing that his firm will start delivery of such models to a globally leading brand in July. Institutional investors generally believe that the firm's high-definition LCD touch panels have been adopted by GoPro, a U.S. supplier of wearable sports cameras, in its newest extreme sports action camera.

Gaining steam from a wider customer base, Pu said, GiantPlus aims to make profit for entire 2014. (SC)
