Orise Technology Supplies Smart Watches to Motorola

2014/06/09 | By Steve Chuang

After building solid ground in the Chinese market for driver ICs used in low-to-mid range smartphones to enjoy explosive revenue growth, Orise Technology Co., Ltd., a Taiwanese supplier of driver ICs, now supplies smart watches to Motorola to further secure its momentum.

M.C. Liao, Orise Technology's president, confirmed that his company is now one of  Motorola's 360 smart watch suppliers. With stylish exterior design and various functions powered by Android, the smart watch model is scheduled to be launched in the summer with expected unit price of around US$250.

In addition to Motorola, Liao added that Orise Technology will also add new customers of wearable electronics, mostly globally known brands, continually this year.

Besides wearable electronics, Orise Technology is also benefiting from the booming market for 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution)-enabled smartphones in China to keep prospering recently. According to the firm's latest financial report, cumulative revenue for the first four months of this year totaled NT$3.817 billion (US$127.23 million) for a sharp increase of 31.32% year on year. In the first quarter, the company turned from red to black with net profits of NT$147 million (US$4.9 million), or NT$1.06 per share.

On prospects this year, Liao commented that his company is expected to continue gaining steam from the thriving market for 4G smartphones, particularly in the low-to-mid segment, in China.

Although local demand has been weakened to some extent by the government's slashing on subsidies for consumers' purchase of high-end 4G models for the moment, the president remains optimistic that the market will soon shoot up in the third quarter and then simmer  throughout the rest of the year, primarily based on expectation that China is likely to resume subsidy starting in the quarter.
