TILS and LED Taiwan Jointly Held First-time This Year

2-in-1 format highlights complete strength and supply chain of Taiwan's lighting industry

2014/05/06 | By Michelle Hsu

Taiwan International Lighting Show (TILS), held March 20-23 at the Nangang Exhibition Hall of the Taipei World Trade Center, a major lighting show in Taiwan, this year for the first time was held jointly with LED Taiwan, an LED manufacturing processes exhibition, to reveal upstream, midstream and downstream aspects of the industry chain.

Such 2-in-1 format also highlights the strength of Taiwan's LED industry to allow buyers to gain in-depth understanding of the LED industry's structure and developmental trends in the industry.

The TILS is co-organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association, co-sponsored by the China Economic New Services.

At the opening ceremony, Taiwan's Vice President Wu Den-yih emphasized the government's commitment to promoting green lighting, saying  that in recent years the government has been promoting the Six Main Emerging Industries, earmarking solar photovoltaic and LED lighting industries as the main targets for  development, also assisted with integration of LED lamp and system manufacturers to make breakthroughs in innovative technology. Wu cited the example of, with government guidance, Taiwan having installed over 230,000 green streetlights, accounting for 17% of the country's total.

Industrial Strength

TLFEA chairman Steven Lin noted in his speech that this year's show is significant in a number of ways. Firstly, combining the show with LED Taiwan expands the show to a new scale, also highlighting the complete lighting industry chain in Taiwan, to re-ignite Taiwan's "Lighting Kingdom" title.

This year the exhibition also invited international organizations, with the Zhaga Consortium making its first visit to hold a seminar, and the Japanese LED Lighting Promotion Association also invited to co-organize the Taiwan and Japan Lighting Industry Forum with the host institute.

Terry Tsao, President of SEMI Taiwan, also emphasized that SEMI is an international industry platform, and in the future it will further integrate its work with member companies to promote related industries in Taiwan.

Shen Rong-chin, Vice Economics Minister, in his speech stressed that lighting consumes about 11% of Taiwan's total electricity, and thus promotion of green lighting in Taiwan is crucial to the government's energy saving and carbon reduction policies.

Themed Pavilions

The TILS featured six themed pavilions, namely Zhaga Pavilion, LED Innovative Application Pavilion, Innovation Product Pavilion, Street Light Promotion Pavilion, and ITRI Pavilion.

The LED Street Light Promotion Pavilion, co-organized by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and the Bureau of Energy under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, brought together the big names in Taiwan's streetlight manufacturing sector to demonstrate their latest products which have just passed national standards.

The Intelligent Systems Research of the Institute for Information Industry (III) ran the Smart Green Lighting Pavilion to exhibit its latest In-Light smart lighting system. Its “flexible automatic switch” is an immediate and rapid lighting switch system with which operators operate through the network without geographical restrictions.

The III points out that the In-Light smart lighting system features a brand new graph-based management model. Compared to the traditional table management model, it's much easier to operate. For example, through this system, users can learn the precise position and state of streetlights, real-time data such as electrical use.

The Innovative Product Pavilion displayed the five Innovation Product Award winners as well as other finalists for this year. The five award winners are Portable Light Measuring Equipment with Display of Rainbow Light Optical Co., Whole Angle Candle Bulb of Ceraenergy Co., LED Integrated Mounted Light of Chemtronics Corp., AMAZING SMART BULB of Anteya Technology Corporation, and 1515 CSP LED of Unistars Corporation.

Exhibitors

Delta Electronics, for example, exhibited a variety of green lighting products this year. Apart from saving energy, their high-power streetlights consist of more than 90% recyclable parts, being rustproof and waterproof up to IP66 rating. The outer housings are specially treated to be rust and salt resistant. These lamps, able to withstand force-17 winds, can be used not only on urban roads, but are also particularly suitable for coastal roads often lashed by salty winds, or alpine regions subject to high winds.

Nan Ya Photonics Inc., the LED subsidiary of the Formosa Plastics Group (FPG), exhibited a wide range of LED-lighting equipment for  industrial, commercial, and residential applications. The industrial lamps included  explosion-proof lights, flameproof flood lights, streetlights, and high-bay and low-bay lights. The commercial lights included AR111, PAR, MR, recessed lamps, T8 light tubes, panel lights, and OA lighting, while the residential lamps consisted mostly of LED light bulbs rated from 7W to 15W.

Just Light Technology exhibited a diverse range of smart lighting systems for 24-hour parking lots, commercial lighting which employ wired signal transmission, and radio signal transmission for outdoor lighting, etc. With integrated or external smart sensors connected to LED lighting systems with adjustable controls, it effectively uses electronic systems to adjust or control illumination, lighting schedule, and other lighting variables.

The Brilliant Radiance Panel (BRP) introduced by Chi Lin company is a new- generation lighting product based on light guide technology. It's not only used as traditional lighting, but also provides special omni-directional lighting panel. BRP replaces normal glass in office and homes for decoration, hence functioning as ambient lighting, interior decoration, advertising panel, and building material, achieving a new type of visual effect and space promotion.

Golden Way Electronics Corp., a major digital electronic ballast manufacturer in Taiwan, has in recent years been seeking strategic partners, aiming to combine forces with downstream enterprises to provide lighting applications featuring brightness, energy-efficiency, and comfort. To achieve this goal, the company worked with City Green Technology Corp. to jointly exhibit lighting products at this year's show. Golden Way stressed that digitized electronics are the future to revitalize conventional electrical products industry. The integration of conventional electrical lighting products with new generation green energy is just one example.

Seed Light's LOG lighting, with LED as lighting source, was inspired as the product name suggests, complementing minimalist design and mathematical concepts. The two magnetic ends and wire clasp design allow users to choose any configuration and adjust the angle to create personalized geometric style for the lamp.

The wall lamp head is not only adjustable to 180 degrees right and left, but its body is also detachable to be used as bedside reading lamp.

Foreign Buyers

This year's show drew an estimated 20,000 visitors from home and abroad. International buyers from around 77 countries include three heavyweights from Indonesia, CV INTERNATIONAL TRADING, PT ACEHARDWARE INDONESIA TBK, and PT TIXPRO INFORMATIKA MEGAH, each with annual revenue of over US$100 million.
