2014/04/24 | By Judy Li

Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) invited 630 buyers from 63 countries to “Sourcing Taiwan 2014,” held late March, and witnessed purchasing value of  US$5.23 billion or about NT$159.8 billion, the highest ever recorded.

Started in 2009, Sourcing Taiwan is one of the most important government-supported events to promote Taiwan as a global supplier of choice. The fair attracted buyers from various sectors including solar energy, wind-driven generators, electric vehicles and light emitting diodes (LEDs), IT telecom/electronic parts and machines, hand tools and fasteners.

C. K. Wang, chairman of TAITRA, indicates that Sourcing Taiwan is one of the most important trade fairs held by TAITRA and this year many buyers came from emerging markets, with 2,000 local enterprises participating, including leading machine makers as Victor Taichung Machinery Works Co., Hiwin Technologies Corp., and TECO Electro Devices Co.; electronic manufacturers as Acer Inc., AU Optronics Corp., BenQ Materials, First International Computer Inc., Elite Group, Transcend Information Inc., and AveMedia Technologies Inc.; as well as leading food companies as Hey Song Corp., AGV Products Corp., Vedan Enterprise Corp., and Taiyen Biotech Co.

Over 10,000 one-on-one meetings were held between local suppliers and foreign buyers, 229 of whom focused on machines & related items, and 213 on IT & telecom products, with both being favored categories. (JL)
