Taiwanese Outbound Travelers Pay Second-lowest for Hotels in 2013: Hotel.com

Taiwanese outbound travelers paid on average NT$3,878 (US$129.26) for hotel room per night in 2013, the second lowest among the 32 polled countries and only higher than NT$3,830 (US$127.67) of Malaysian counterparts, according to a report released by Hotels.com, a  hotel booking website.

Swiss outbound travelers paid the most at NT$5,416 (US$180.53), followed by Argentines' NT$5,268 (US$175.6),  Americans' NT$5,161 (US$172.03), Norwegians' NT$5,132 (US$171.07) and Japanese NT$5,056 (US$168.53).

In domestic travel, the Swiss also paid the highest for overnight hotel stay of an average NT$6,311 (US$210.37), followed by Norwegians' NT$5,514 (US$183.8) and Singaporeans' NT$5,457 (US$181.9), with Thais paying the least at NT$2,626 (US$87.53) and Taiwanese NT$3,326 (US$110.87).

Taiwan has recently added flight routes and number of flights to meet rising demand for inbound and outbound travel. Moreover, tourist hotels have in recent years sprung up all over the island to serve rapidly growing inbound tourists. A senior manager at Hotel.com expresses optimism about Taiwan's tourist market which the website will focus on to provide more hotel information to potential travelers. (JL)
