Premier Jiang Urges Enhancing Taiwan's Exports

2014/02/14 | By Judy Li

To help revitalize Taiwan's economy, Premier Jiang Yi-huah has lately instructed the National Development Council to devise effective strategies to enhance Taiwan's exports, suggesting to upgrade products, tap emerging markets and build more marketing channels.

Jiang urges government units to put more efforts in helping domestic small- and medium-sized enterprises to cooperate to make quality products and become key global suppliers.

An export specialist indicates that Taiwan supplies 22 world-leading products, of which three-fourth are traditional items including glass material, fasteners, bicycle, auto parts, etc. He suggests that the government should financially assist manufacturers of the said products to keep improving quality to retain leading position globally and obtain international certification to join global supply chain as key suppliers.

Jiang also suggests setting up online business platforms to meet the rapid global development of e-commerce. In 2015 China's online business is estimated to reach 18 trillion renminbi and Taiwan should aggressively explore this huge market, Jiang stresses. (JL)
