EVA Airways' New Boeing Aircrafts Offer Internet & Mobile Services

Taipei, Dec.7, 2012 (CENS)---Taiwan-based airline EVA Airways has been allowed by the Civil Aeronautics Administration to offer in-flight wireless internet and mobile-calling services in its newly-purchased Boeing 777-300ER, becoming the first domestic airline to offer mobile communication.

The airline bought seven Boeing 777-300ERs in May this year, which are scheduled to be delivered from 2014 and will be equipped with the latest eX3 entertainment system and global communication system (GCS). Each Boeing 777-300ER offers more than 300 seats to target long haul routes to the U.S. and Europe.

A representative of EVA pointed out that the GCS applies independent channel authorized by the National Communication Commission (NCC), which does not interfere with aviation safety and enables passenger to enjoy services including wireless internet, mobile communication, and e-mails.

In the Greater China region, currently only Singapore Airlines offers some GCS services, while EVA is the first airline to provide both Wifi and mobile communications.

A representative of EVA explained that except takeoff and landing, passengers in all cabins can go online or enjoy mobile services once cruising altitude is reached.

An industry source noted that the new services will help EVA attract business passengers, especially on long haul routes.
