TAITRA Organizes “Trade with EU” to Boost Bilateral Trade

Taipei, Oct. 26, 2012 (CENS)--With 10% decline in Europe-bound exports in the first nine months, Taiwan's Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) instructed Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) to hold the one-on-one buyer-supplier matchmaking event, “2012 Trade with the EU,” on Oct. 24 in Taipei to drive bilateral trade.

C.G. Wang, chairman of TAITRA, indicated that EU was Taiwan's fourth-largest trade partner, following China, Japan, and the United States; while Taiwan's trade revenues last year totaled US$52.563 billion or 8.9% of Taiwan's overall foreign trade, rising 8.1% year on year (YoY). Besides, EU is regarded as one of Taiwan's important foreign capital sources, contributing to a quarter of foreign investments.

X.M. Wang, the director of Market Development Department of TAITRA, noted that TAITRA invited 86 enterprises from 17 EU nations to the event, of which 79 buyers procured hardware, electromechanical equipment, machinery, medical devices, electronic components and parts, information communication technology (ICT) related products, building materials, foodstuffs, sport gears, and fabrics and garments; with seven suppliers promoting machinery, chemical raw materials, and communication products, all of which generating estimated business of US$97.47 million.

Most of the buyers were from Italy, followed by Poland and Bulgaria; particularly EU nations of Scandinavia and Central- Western- Europe such as Denmark, Finland, Austria, and Belgium, with the seven suppliers from France, England, Spain, the Netherlands, and Czech Republic.

Some 372 local firms met buyers in one-on-one meetings, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC), Tatung Company, First International Computer, Inc.(FIC), Twinhead International Corp., WANXIN Image Inc., DSG Technology Corp., Far East Bio-Tec. Co., Ltd., AGV Products Corporation, Her Cherng Sanitary Co., Ltd., Harvest Grower International Co., Ltd., and Cheng Kuang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.
