Taipei, Aug, 15 2012 (CENS)--Canon Taiwan Inc, a Taiwanese affiliate under Canon of Japan known as a globally-leading digital still camera (DSC) brand, increased investment to NT$ 15 billion (US$ 500 million) in the camera-lens factories in the Taichung Export Processing Zone and Jiayi County, in Southern Taiwan.

Recently in the Taichung Export Processing Zone, Canon Taiwan broke ground on plants F and A, with the former investing about NT$ 7.1 billion (US$ 236.6 million), and the latter's reaching NT$ 3.9 billion (US$ 130 million) to build plants for glass-lens processing.

In addition to plants A and F in Central Taiwan, Canon Taiwan also invested

NT$ 4 billion (US$ 133.3 million) in the Jiayi plant in the Jiayi Dapumei Intelligent Industrial Park.

According to Canon Taiwan, target revenue this year could increase to NT$ 50 billion (US$ 1.6 billion) from NT$ 33.9 billion (US$ 1.13 billion) last year, with employees to reach 8,000 by the end of this year.

A senior excusive of Canon Taiwan said that the plant F is designed to produce interchangeable lens for digital cameras, with plant A focusing on glass-lens processing. Insiders say the plant F's annual output of interchangeable lens would be around 10 million units, or 50% of Canon Group's yearly production.

Canon Taiwan's Jiayi plant focuses on producing its popular single-lens digital cameras series EOS-600D and 1100D, and will move all production lines of single-lens digital cameras to the Jiayi plant at the end of this year.

Canon Taiwan could triple capacities with the plant F and Jiayi plant, leading with a 46% global market share for single-lens digital cameras last year to top DSC manufacture globally.
