Taipei, Aug.17 , 2011 (CENS)--Mitac International Corp. of Taiwan recently claimed it will be launching at the end of August the world's first tablet PC for automotive application, also the company's first tablet.

The company said that its tablet PC line would focus mainly on automotive, healthcare etc. niches, adding that it is working with the National Yang Ming University and affiliate MiTAC Information Technology Corp. to acquire healthcare certifications for its tablet PCs.

According to Mitac, automotive DVR (digital video record) products have yet to become as popular among consumers in Europe and the U.S. as in Asia, so the company chose to debut the new automotive tablet in Taiwan first, also to introduce similar products with more functions in other markets.

Currently, all-in-one (AIO) and desktop PCs account for 30% of Mitac's overall revenue (35% in the third quarter of 2010), while mobile and portable devices and GPS products make up another 20% and 50%, respectively. Sales in Europe and the U.S. now contribute to about 65% of Mitac's revenue.

In the first seven months, the firm registered cumulative revenue of NT$26.56 billion (US$915.8 million). Mitac said that its factories in China are working with schools to hire more temporary or part-time workers to minimize impacts from rising labor wages.
