Mainland China Woos Taiwan to Cooperate on TD-LTE Front

2011/06/23 | By Ken Liu

Taipei, June 23 2011 (CENS)--Wang Jianzhou, chairman of China Mobile, and Xi Guohua, Chinese Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, recently suggested that Taiwan work with the mainland on TD-LTE (time division long term evolution) manufacturing and marketing.

Wang said in a teleconferencing meeting with Far EasTone Telecom executives via TD-LTE wireless technology that it is a good time now for TD-product suppliers in Taiwan and mainland China to work together on the manufacturing, and Xi said the mainland will work with Taiwan's manufacturers to tap not just the mainland's TD-LTE market, but also the world TD-LTE market.

China Mobile and Far EasTone recently co-launched a TD-LTE testing center in Taipei. Wang said his company, currently the mainland's No.1 mobile service provider, will spend lavishly on 3G and 4G products this year after purchasing over NT$100 billion (US$3.44 billion at US$1:NT$29) worth of end-user and network equipment last year.

Xi pointed out that Taiwan's equipment manufacturers have been playing a major part in the mainland's 4G service program, laying a good foundation for the manufacturers in Taiwan and the mainland to co-develop world market for the next-generation mobile service.
