Wintek to Emerge as World's Largest Cover Lens Supplier in 2012

Taipei, May 6, 2011 (CENS)--Having worked out its ATT (Advanced Technology Touch) technology independently, Wintek Corp., a large-sized supplier of touch panels in Taiwan, is expected to emerge as the world's largest manufacturer of cover lens by output in 2012.

The company indicated that the ATT technology allows its engineers to attach touch sensors directly to cover lenses, thus cutting production costs by 20% and making touch panels even lighter than conventional models. Furthermore, touch panels going through the production technology have a transmission rate of up to 92%.

Backed by the cutting-edge technology, the company is determined to raise investment in capacity expansion for cover lenses, and will achieve maximum monthly output of one million units in May.

H.H. Huang, Wintek's chairman, said confidently that the ATT technology has made his company technically run ahead of most competitors in the industry, even including Japan's Fuji Crystal and China's Lens Technology, and the company is very likely become the world's the largest cover lens supplier next year.

The company has garnered orders for touch panels from Samsung, and has been reportedly selected by Apple Inc. as a major supplier of the component for its white iPhone 4G. Institutional investors have projected the company's touch panel shipment to exceed 1.8 million units in May, with about 80% of which going to Apple.

In 2010, Wintek and its Taiwanese counterpart TPK Holding Co. supplied 43% and 29%, respectively, of the global market for touch panels used in tablet PCs, both makers being Apple's major touch-panel suppliers, according to reports issued by market survey institutes.

Wintek just reported its sales revenue of NT$6.877 billion for April, down 17.95% from March due mainly to Apple switching iPhone 4 to iPhone 5, which undermined severely the company's shipment for April. However, the company will surely regain growth momentum from its customers soon.
