Advantech Overtakes Kontron to Become No. 2 IPC Manufacturer
2010/11/26 | By Ben ShenTaipei, Nov. 26, 2010 (CENS)--Advantech Co., Taiwan's leading manufacturer of industrial personal computer (IPC), has exceeded Kontron Co. to become the world's No. 2 IPC manufacturer, trailing NCR.
Advantech registered NT$18.753 billion in consolidated sales in the first 10 months of this year, for a whopping 51.39% growth year-on-year.
The maker distributes products globally under its Advantech brand, offering a wide range of products.
Since the beginning of this year, Advantech has adopted merger and acquisition to expand its global presence, acquiring DLoG of Germany, Innocore of England, and Taiwan's ACA Corp., and will continue its M&A strategy.
In addition to IPCs, Advantech has also engaged in in-vehicle navigation, gaming platforms and military-application computers.
Advantech scored sales of NT$6.9 billion in the third quarter, only behind NCR in the IPC arena globally at US$1.21 billion, or approximately NT$37 billion in sales in the same quarter. Kontron scored 133 million euro, or approximately NT$5.5 billion, in third-quarter sales with similar product lines and services as Advantech.
Taiwan's top-four IPC firms are Advantech, ICP Electronics Inc., Adlink Technology Inc. and Flytech Group International Inc., while Advantech's sales exceeded the combined sales of the other three in October.
