Taiwan's 3 Science Parks to Post Over NT$2Trillion in Annual Revenues
2010/10/29 | By Steve ChuangTaipei, Oct. 29, 2010 (CENS)--The recovering global economy will drive the total revenue at Taiwan's three science parks, namely Hsinchu Science Park, Central Taiwan Science Park and Southern Taiwan Science Park, to exceed NT$2 trillion to hit an all-time high this year, according to the National Science Council's Minister Lee Lou-chuang.
NSC's latest report says the overall revenue generated by the three science parks for the first eight months totals NT$1.43 trillion, 53% more than NT$933.3 billion for the same period of last year. Compared with the 2009 revenue of NT$1.58 trillion, the three parks have obviously recovered to pre-meltdown level.
The HSP has contributed NT$778.2 billion to the 8-month revenue, CTSP NT$256.1 billion and STSP NT$404 billion.
The IC and semiconductor companies in the parks have generated NT$721.6 billion during the period, sharply up 52% from NT$472.7 billion a year earlier, while optoelectronics companies’ 8-month revenues have surge to NT$591.6 billion from NT$376.7 billion.
The number of tenants has also risen with revenues: 62 new companies have set up shop in the past nine months to bring the total in the three science parks to 741, with over 215,000 employees on the payroll, says the NSC.
