Sean Chen Appointed to Be Vice Premier

Taipei, May 14, 2010 (CENS)--Premier Wu Den-yih announced partial reshuffle of the Cabinet yesterday (May 13), appointing Sean Chen as the Vice Premier to succeed Eric Chu, who resigned the post in preparation for running the mayor of New Taipei City (upgraded entity of Taipei County), and Chen Yuh-chang as chairman of Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), filling the vacancy left by Sean Chen.

In an interview with the Central News Agency yesterday, President Ma characterized the two new economic/financial government chiefs as persons with macro viewpoint, far sight, and executive power, saying the appointments were decided by him and Premier Wu jointly.

The two Chens are both seasoned financial experts, boasting extensive experience in finance-related jobs. Sean Chen, 61, owns a master degree in law from National Taiwan University, having served such stints as vice finance minister, director general of the Bureau of Monetary Affairs, under the Ministry of Finance (MOF), director general of the Department of Insurance, MOF, and chairman of SinoPac Holding, KGI Securities, Taiwan Cooperative Bank, and Taiwan Stock Exchange. He authored a number of works on Taiwan's finance, including "French Wolves and an Owl," which expresses his viewpoint on the financial world and the trend of financial globalization.

Chen Yuh-chang owns a MBA degree from National Taiwan University, and was former director of Securities and Futures Committee, MOF, and executive officer, the Executive Yuan (the Cabinet) before joining Taipei City government when Ma Ying-jeou was the mayor, serving such stints as deputy mayor and secretary general of Taipei City government, as well as chairman of Taipei Smart Card Co., a city government-invested unit.
