HannStar Display To Invest NT$6 B On Touch Screen Lines

2010/02/02 | By Ken Liu

Taipei, Feb. 2, 2010 (CENS)-HannStar Display Corp. will invest NT$6 billion (US$187 million at US$1:NT$32) this year to furnish itself with one more production line to produce color filters and one more line to put out LCD (liquid crystal display) touch modules for mid- and small-size screens.

Once the color-filter line is completed, the LCD maker will be able to make the filters within its factory, setting aside the monthly capacity of 100,000 filters it has secured with strategic partner Sintek Photronic Corp. for orders from big-name suppliers of mobile phones outfitted with touch screens.

HannStar estimated a highly integrated production involving the in-house CF line to help double its revenue for this year from 2009's NT$50.6 billion (US$1.5 billion at US$1:NT$32).

As part of its integrated production scheme, the company is installing an LCD touch module line at its factory in Nanjing. In the future, the company will assemble its touch sensor and LCD panel with its drive ICs at the Nanjing factory.
