Compal and Quanta Raise NB Shipment Goals for Q4

2009/12/01 | By Ben Shen

Taipei, Dec. 1, 2009 (CENS)--One month after Microsoft's introduction of the new operating system Windows 7, leading domestic contract manufacturers of NB PCs, including Compal Electronics Corp. and Quanta Computer Inc., have recently raised shipment goals for the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of next year.

The booming sales of Windows 7 over the past month have helped boost sales of NBs embedded with the new operating system.

Compal president J.T. Chen said his company has seen increased demand from distributors whose inventories are low. Judging from the current sales, Compal believed it will see NB shipments in November exceed the preceding month's. Accordingly, the company predicted it will see NB shipments grow 20% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of this year, higher than the earlier projected 10%.

The market originally estimated Compal will ship 36.5 million NBs this year. After the upward adjustment, Compal is expected to have great chance to challenge the shipment of 37 million NBs this year.

Chen predicted Compal will see NB shipments grow 20% annually in 2010, in addition to the high growth in sales of all-in-one PCs. The company's shipments of LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs will reach between 5.5 million and six million in 2010.

Quanta vice chairman and president C.C. Leung noted his company will enjoy a peak in sales in the fourth quarter of this year. With shipments reaching 3.9 million NBS in October, the company predicted it would see November sales grow from the preceding month. The company estimated its NB shipment will grow 20% annually in the fourth quarter of this year.

Leung asserted his company will see NB shipments grow one quarter after another with whole-year shipments growing at least 40% in 2010.
