Taipei, Oct. 22, 2009 (CENS)--More than one million LCD TVs are expected to be sold in Taiwan this year, up 15% year-on-year (YoY), with the expanding local market attracting many brands to vie for the lead.

A senior CHIMEI executive pointed out that his company was the No. 1 brand in the local market and is expected to lead in 2009 with brisk sales in the second half.

Other major LCD TV brands in Taiwan include Teco, Tatung, BenQ, Heran, Sony, LG, Sanyo etc.

A senior Teco executive said that the firm led in August in terms of sales volume, and is confident of becoming the leader by the year-end due to having launched some new models recently. Teco sold about 12,000 LCD TVs in August, for about 15% of the overall 74,000 units in Taiwan.

BenQ aims to ship more than 100,000 LCD TVs this year, further assuring its No. 3 position but could also go to No. 2 or even No. 1. The company targets consumers who would buy imported Sony, Sharp or Samsung.

A senior Tatung executive admitted that his company lacked full-range sized models in the first half, but sales has been rising monthly in the second half due to continual demonstration of new products.

Heran chairman K.T. Tsai said that his company's goal is to stay among the top-five, being very confident of his company's models, often deemed as competitively priced and sold on both 3C (computer, communication, and consumer electronics) and TV shopping channels.
