Taiwanese Passive Component Suppliers See Turnaround in Q2

2009/07/29 | By Steve Chuang

Taipei, July 29, 2009 (CENS)--With strong consumer demand for mobile phones, notebook PCs and LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs helping to drive up capacity utilization rates to around 70%, Taiwanese passive components makers have generally enjoyed a turnaround in business operations in the second quarter of this year.

One example is Holy Stone Enterprise Co., Ltd., a MLCC (multi layer ceramic capacitor) supplier, who scored sales revenue of NT$3.059 billion (US$93.63 million at US$1: NT$32.67) for the second quarter, still 5.86% less than a year earlier but sharply up 38.16% from a quarter earlier.

More noteworthy is that the firm's pretax profits surged by 47.82% quarterly, or 20.15% annually, to NT$310 million (US$9.488 million) in the quarter. With the shining profit performance, the firm has effectively driven up its aggregate pretax profits to NT$1.86 (US$0.0569) for the first half of the year.

Thinking Electronic Industrial Co., Ltd. reported combined revenue of NT$735 million (US$22.497 million) for the quarter, up 27.6% from the first quarter, and doubled its pretax profits to NT$133 million (US$4.07 million), or NT$1.17 (US$0.0358) per share. The firm has scored NT$1.75 (US$0.0535) in aggregate pretax EPS (earnings per share) for the first half.

Thinking Electronic noted that some positive factors, including rising capacity utilization rate and lower material and production costs, have effectively helped to improve its gross profit in the quarter.
