Taipei, Nov. 7, 2008 (CENS)--Hewlett-Packard Co., the world`s largest brand of notebook PCs, has unveiled its newest low-price laptop Mini 1000 in Taiwan, which is supplied by Taiwanese contract supplier Inventec Corp. and distributed by Synnex Technology International Co., Ltd. and Xander International Corp., according to company sources.
In fact, HP launched its first low-price laptop Mini-Note this April, which adopted CPU (central processing unit) made by VIA Technologies Inc. of Taiwan and magnesium-aluminum alloy case for commercial use. However, the product was unpopular with consumers due partly to low performance caused by Vista overloading processor speed, and partly to the overheating metallic case.
To skirt these drawbacks, HP improves the Mini 1000 by adopting plastic cases treated with IMD (In-Mold Decoration) technology and using Microsoft`s Window XP operating system instead of Vista. Besides, the brand tries to differentiate the product from competing models by adding visual attractions and styling in exterior design, in a bid to shrewdly fend off fierce competition in prices and specifications against Acer and Asustek, now the top two notebook PC brands in the Taiwanese market. The newest laptop is also available in splendid hues for female users.
HP is quite confident of the market prospect for low-price laptops in Taiwan, as the global economic recession has prompted consumers and enterprises to buy such economical products.
In recent years, notebook PCs have quickly replaced desktop models, with popularity of low-price laptops accelerating the replacement all around the world. Xander noted that sales of PCs in Taiwan are estimated to rise by 10% in the fourth quarter of this year from the third quarter, and HP is expected to seize the chance to drive up its sales performance in the market with the newest low-price laptop.
