Taipei, August 11. 2008 (CENS)--With a seasonal boom coming to the notebook PC industry, Taiwan`s three major suppliers in the line, namely Compal Electronics Inc., Wistron Corp. and Inventec Corp., all saw their single-month combined revenues hit the year`s highs in July, according to company sources.
Institutional investors indicated that Taiwanese notebook PC suppliers` third-quarter revenues are expected to increase by 20% from the second quarter, due partly to notebook PCs continuing replacing desktop models and partly to emergence of low-price laptops all around the world in the year. Furthermore, the depreciation of the New Taiwan dollar against the U.S. dollar will even drive up notebook PC suppliers` profits in the remaining months of the year.
Compal posted combined revenue of NT$36.94 billion in July, slightly down 5% from last July but hitting the year`s high. Its aggregate revenue for the first seven months of the year reached NT$237.1 billion. In July, the firm shipped 2.3 million notebook PCs, growing 15% from 2 million units shipped in June.
Compal noted that except plastic housings, it has secured ample supply of other parts and components, such as power supplies and ICs (integrated circuits), optimistically expecting its third-quarter revenue to rise 20% from the second quarter, with Intel to debut its new platform Centrino 2 during the span.
In the meantime, Wistron scored combined revenue of NT$37.454 billion in July, up 7% from June and sharply increasing 58.76% from last July. The firm`s aggregated revenue of NT$216.348 billion for the first seven months represented a sharp increase of 62.09% from a year earlier.
Wistron shipped 4.6 million notebook PCs and earned sales revenue of NT$90.6 billion in the second quarter. The figures are estimated to further grow to between 5.5 million and 6 million units and NT$117.5 billion, respectively, in the third quarter, according to institutional investors.
On the other hand, Inventec`s combined revenues for July also hit a new single-month high of NT$31.026 billion, surging 37.64% from a month earlier and 99.26% from last July. The firm`s combined revenue aggregated NT$168.352 billion in the past seven months, rising 39.53% from a year earlier.
