Taipei, July 7, 2008 (CENS)--In light of huge business opportunities to be generated by Beijing Olympics this year, Merida Industry Co., a world`s leading supplier of own branded bicycles, recently sold out 100 units of its latest Ninety Six series high-end bicycles soon after they were launched, according to company sources.
Merida is quite proud of the newest bicycle, which is built with a totally shock-absorbing, 1.9kg frame with DT carbon rear shock and a lockout lever. Besides, the company claimed that Ninety Six, weighing only 8.9kg, is world`s No. 1 sport bicycle with a higher STW (strength-to-weight) ratio than any other competing models.
The hottest sport bicycle, selling for a prohibitive price of NT$350,000 (about US$11,438 at US$1: NT$30.6) per unit, is specially developed for use by the world`s most excellent athletes in Beijing Olympic Games this year. Noteworthy is that the 7-time World Cup champion Gunn-Rita Dahle will be riding this new machine in 2008 season and is expected to help Merida build its brand recognition in the world.
Merida noted that Ninety Six series bicycles have been designated as exclusive team bikes for Merida`s overseas biking team, with a limited production volume of 100 units for sales around the world, such as Europe, where the bicycle is priced at euro 9,000 per unit. In the meantime, the brand also unveiled two new bikes of its Ninety Six family, which both adopt the same frames as the Ninety Six sport bike and sell for between NT$100,000 and NT$300,000 (around US$3,268 and US$9,804) per unit.
