Delta is Very Buoyant About 2008 Based on New Optoelectronic Items

Taipei, May 6, 2008 (CENS)--Delta Electronics Inc., one of the largest EMS (electronics manufacturing services) providers in Taiwan, is very confident about its operation in 2008 for its new optoelectronic products.

Bruce Cheng, chairman of Delta, recently pointed out that his company has won orders from some big international brands for self-developed 5W, 9W, and 12W light-emitting diode (LED) lamps and is scheduled to begin shipments in the second half. In addition, he added, Delta's III-V based concentration photovoltaics (CPV) products have also been delivered to some foreign power plants.

For Delta's LED business deployment, Cheng said that his company would continue to conduct in-house R&D on such products and keep finding strategic partners. According to the chairman, Delta's advanced, energy-saving high-brightness 5W/9W/12W LED lamps were demonstrated at the Light+Building 2008 exhibition in Frankfurt in mid-April and won many orders. The LED lamp is 100% compatible with current sockets (E27) and looks similar to compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) of the same wattage. The lamp can also be easily installed and readily replaces CFL and incandescent counterparts.

Cheng said that his company is still evaluating the feasibility to step into upstream epitaxy field because there are already many strong and big players in such segment. Delta is familiar with the lighting market and is very optimistic about the future development of LED products, he added.

Delta registered consolidated revenue of NT$130.6 billion (US$4.28 billion at US$1: NT$30.5) in 2007, translating into net earnings of NT$15.06 billion (US$493.77 million) and earnings per share (EPS) of NT$7.15 (US$0.23). Cheng stressed that the 2008 results should be more lucrative than previous year.

Yancey Hai, Delta's CEO, pointed out that Delta's LED lamp offers excellent light efficiency that is superior to CFLs and five times higher than incandescent lamps. The 5W LED lamp, for example, is as efficient as a 25W incandescent lamp, achieving 80% reduction in power usage. In addition, he added, the lamp works for more than 35,000 hrs, or six times longer than CFLs and 20 times that of incandescent lamps. Produced under lead-free conditions, the LED lamp is mercury-free, 100% RoHS compliant.

Delta predicted that the luminous efficacy of the LED lamp would reach 70 lm/W by July 2008, making the new light fully ready to replace traditional CFLs.
